SUNFLOWERS
(by Pam Mordecai)

Vincent Van Gogh, the sunflower man
cut off his ear when Paul Gaugin
wouldn't stay to paint with him
in southern France.
I burnt my veil and wedding dress
scarred both my cheeks
tattooed rosettes
along my arms with cigarettes.
We both needed a man to stay.
You think it was
loneliness? I don't
think so. Madness
has always been my guess.

Dear Rethabile,
One of the great things about Pam Mordecai that not only is she a great poet, but she is a warm, welcoming person.

Geoffrey,
I have so much to read and know. And enjoy. Magnificent poem.
I am feeling like a kid in a candy store. Adding another poet to my tbr list.
God, I love this, especially the second stanza.
She looks like a wonderful woman.
Michelle,
One day we'll meet Pam (in the flesh), who does look and write and sound like a wonderful woman.
Wow! Wow!Wow! What a poem, "Sunflowers." What woman can't identify with this one? Powerfully good. Thank you.
Tea,
I know...
I'm smiling.
